Technical support for the regulation of digital platforms, PEReN presents its 2023 activity report

PEReN has submitted its activity report for 2023 to its three supervisory ministers (Economy, Digital, Communication). We look back on a year rich in technical support for the regulation of digital platforms.

2023, the turning point of maturity

The year 2023, PEReN's third year of existence, marks the end of its installation period. During this cycle, PEReN has not only succeeded in attracting rare talent and building a fully mastered and sovereign infrastructure, but has also become a recognized and trusted technical reference for its partners, as demonstrated by the roadmap co-constructed with them and the resulting work program.

PEREN is committed to playing a coordinating role, and the 70 projects it has been entrusted with for 2023 confirm the main thrusts identified in previous years:

In this way, PEReN has contributed to a number of topical issues for public authorities: protection of minors and age verification online, implementation of the European DSA regulation, detection of artificial content on social networks, États généraux de l'information, practices of influencers, protection of users from malicious sites, identification of misleading interfaces, operation of employment platforms, etc.

Unsurprisingly, the irruption of generative artificial intelligence into the economy and society is reflected in PEReN's work. Having grasped the subject at an early stage, it will continue to invest in the technical understanding of major language models by appropriating state-of-the-art methods for their evaluation, and by conducting experiments, on both open source and proprietary models, in real production conditions.
