PEReN – Center of expertise for digital platform regulation
Data science expertise at the service of digital regulation
PEReN is launching a new web space dedicated to deciphering the actions of digital platforms in terms of transparency. The idea? To offer analytical infographics based on aggregated available resources. Discover them now!
The standardization and popularization of the use of digital platforms have been accompanied by growing concerns about, for example, certain deceptive practices or the publication of hateful, harmful or violent content. Many players, including civil society and the scientific community, have called for greater transparency on the part of digital platforms in terms of content moderation, protection of minors online and advertising practices.
While some platforms have already made efforts to remedy this lack of transparency by adopting internal policies and publishing information, they must now all comply with new European obligations. The Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into force on February 17, 2024, now requires them to identify, assess and mitigate potential systemic risks, arising from the operation and use of their services.
A web space dedicated to the exploration of transparency data
Against this backdrop of regulatory transformation, PEReN has sought to gain a real understanding of the scope and relevance of digital platforms' internal policies, which can transform the content available or the uses to which Internet users put it.
To contribute to understanding the actions of major platforms in terms of transparency, it is opening this new web space, Governance of digital platforms, organized around two main headings:
You too can contribute!
This web space is collaborative and dynamic. Send us any additional resources you have obtained from the official sites of the major digital platforms to help enrich it! PEReN will gradually add new visualizations to continue exploring the data made available by digital platforms.
