PEReN – Center of expertise for digital platform regulation
Data science expertise at the service of digital regulation
The French data protection authority (CNIL) and PEReN have signed a framework agreement specifying the general terms and conditions of their partnership in the implementation of projects of common interest.
PEReN's innovative concept is to create a centre of excellence capable of supporting all the French State administrations involved in the regulation of digital platforms by providing them with technical assistance in the fields of data processing, data science and algorithmic processes.
In addition to its digital regulation missions in the field of personal data, the CNIL also aims to anticipate technologies and their challenges for privacy and thus participate in innovation. In 2016, it created the Digital Innovation Laboratory (LINC). This laboratory recently brought together Olivier Blazy (LIX, École Polytechnique) and PEReN to develop a proof of concept for an age verification system allowing access to certain categories of sites without sharing other identifying information.
The formalisation of this partnership offers the CNIL and PEReN the possibility of intensifying the technical projects launched in 2022.
